Jacki Whisenant is an illustrator and musician from Madison, Wisconsin. An early fascination with bats sparked an interest in unusual animals and plants, and the family's love of books led to many trips to the library for volumes on the natural world. After graduating with a degree in art/music from UW-Madison, they took several years of additional classes in the sciences to reignite the energy that comes with newfound knowledge. Jacki always embraces the opportunity to explore new facets of study, particularly entomology and comparative anatomy. Working at the UW-Madison Zoological Museum, WI State Herbarium, and volunteering at the Wisconsin Insect Research Collection were pivotal experiences that sharpened a lifelong interest in natural history.

Jacki is currently a Master's student in Entomology at UW-Madison, doing a survey of the Tetratomidae of Wisconsin, and working at the Zoological Museum.
They previously earned a Master's Certificate in Scientific Illustration at California State University - Monterey Bay, and a BFA from UW-Madison. In addition to research and museum work, Jacki co-taught Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (fall semesters) and redesigned the lab manual with input from Aaron Kufner and Dr. Scott Hartman.  A dedicated advocate for science education, they were the coordinator for Insect Ambassadors for two years (an insect outreach group through the Entomological Graduate Student Association of UW–Madison), and continues to help out with presentations to encourage entomological enthusiasm in students of all ages.
